What to pick in Google Takeout

Your Wrapped reads three products from Takeout and one file from your phone. You can untick everything else.1

Checked 29 October 2026 against the sources.

The three products

Takeout ticks every product you use.1 Untick the rest, or keep them: the Wrapped never opens photos, videos or Drive files.

Product in TakeoutWhat it holdsWhat the Wrapped reads
MailYour messages with their headers and Gmail labels.7 Labels are kept in an X-Gmail-Labels header.1The From, Date and X-Gmail-Labels headers of each message
My ActivityTimestamped activity records, with Search, YouTube and Maps in their own groups, as HTML or JSON.2The time and kind of each entry, and the channel for YouTube
ChromeThe sites visited in Chrome, as JSON.3The time and the site of each visit

YouTube watch and search history are part of My Activity.2 If you also pick YouTube and YouTube Music, the Wrapped counts each video once.

Make the export

Google’s steps, as its help page gives them on 29 October 2026, with the choices that suit the Wrapped. Google recommends a computer, not a phone, for downloading and opening the export.1

  1. Sign in to your Google Account, then go to takeout.google.com.The products you use are ticked already.1
  2. Untick everything except Mail, My Activity and Chrome, then select Next step.1
  3. Choose Send download link via email, One-time archive and Zip files.1The Wrapped also reads tgz files, but a zip lets it open only the parts it needs.
  4. Pick the largest Archive size.Bigger exports are split into several files. Google suggests the 50GB limit to make a split less likely.1
  5. Select Create export, and in Google’s email select Download archive. It can take from a few minutes to a few days. The archive expires in about 7 days and can be downloaded 5 times.1
  6. Open the Wrapped and choose every part of the archive at once.Mail can land in a different part from My Activity.

Export your Timeline from your phone

Google saves your Maps Timeline visits and routes on each of your signed-in devices, and Timeline isn’t available in Maps on a computer.4, 6 Export it from the phone, then copy the file to your computer.

On Android

  1. Open the phone’s Settings app.4
  2. Tap Location, then Location services, then Timeline.4
  3. Tap Export Timeline data, then Continue.4
  4. Pick where to save it and tap Save.A notification says “Export complete” when it’s done.4

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Google Maps app.5
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial, then Settings, then Location & Privacy.5
  3. Tap Export Timeline data, then Save to Files on the share sheet.5
  4. Pick a location and tap Save. The file is called location-history.json.5

Choose the Timeline file together with your archive. If you renamed it, choose it on its own: the Wrapped recognizes it by what’s inside.

If a slide comes out empty

Only what was saved

What shows up in My Activity depends on which products you use and which activity settings are on.8 Items still being deleted aren’t in the archive.1

A quiet year can mean history was paused, not that you were.

Locked or blocked

Encrypted Chrome data, such as history locked with your own sync passphrase, comes out as “Your data is encrypted and cannot be exported”.3 On a work or school account, the administrator decides what you can download.1

The Wrapped’s last data slide lists what your file left out.
